Click to view photo galleryFollowing an internal briefing on March 25 on the key political, economic and technology innovation trends in Brazil, the BSA delegation, along with the president of local software association, ABES, traveled to Brasilia on March 26 to meet with top government officials including:

  • Tarso Fernando Herz Genro, Minister of Justice;
  • Luiz Paulo Teles Ferreira Barreto, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, and Chairman of the National Council on Combating Piracy and Intellectual Property Crimes (CNCP);
  • André Luiz Alvez Barcellos, Executive Secretary to the CNCP;
  • Sérgio Rezende, Minister of Science and Technology;
  • Augusto Cesar Gadelha Vieira, Secretary for Information Technology Policy
  • Flexa Ribeiro, Senator and President of the Senate Commission on Science, Technology, Communications and IT;
  • Renato Casagrande, Gerson Camata and Sérgio Zambiasi, Senators and members of the Senate Commission on Science, Technology, Communications and IT;
  • Pedro Chaves, Federal Representative, and Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Special Commission to Combat Piracy;
  • Julio Semeghini, Federal Representative and a leader on IT policy; and
  • Clifford M. Sobel, the US Ambassador to Brazil, who hosted 40 guests for a luncheon attended by the BSA delegation, Brazilian government officials, members of the Brazilian Congress, business executives, and US embassy officials.

BSA Brasilia Ministerial MeetingsThroughout these discussions, the BSA members emphasized the industry’s commitment to Brazil; promoted the need for technology polices that stimulate innovation; commended the government for its progress on copyright protection and enforcement and urged continued efforts; and offered BSA as a resource on technology and anti-piracy policies.
