The Business Software Alliance (BSA) today announced that Washington attorney Jodie L. Kelley has joined the organization as General Counsel and Vice President of Anti-Piracy. In this role, Kelley will lead BSA’s domestic and international anti-piracy programs, its efforts against Internet crime, and its educational programs to promote software license compliance and respect for intellectual property. Kelley will serve as BSA’s general counsel for all corporate matters and manage BSAs’ anti-piracy programs and counsel in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. Representing the largest copyright-based industry, BSA operates in nearly 80 countries worldwide.
“Throughout its existence, BSA has been on the leading edge of legal issues shaping the software industry in the United States and worldwide. Jodie will help us drive further progress, drawing upon her exceptional leadership, legal, and people skills,” said BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman.
Prior to joining BSA, Kelley served for six years as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Fannie Mae, where she was responsible for managing the company’s litigation portfolio and its responses to various governmental inquiries. She also was responsible for advising the company on issues including antitrust and anti-fraud efforts. Previously, she was a partner at Jenner & Block in Washington, where she specialized in civil and regulatory litigation and handled cases before trial and appellate courts and various regulatory agencies throughout the country.
“I have worked with many attorneys, and Jodie Kelley is one of the best and the brightest, combining intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, great legal and managerial skills, and a passion for delivering solid results for her clients,” said Ann Kappler, former General Counsel at Fannie Mae and currently Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, Corporate Services, Prudential Financial. “The software industry is lucky to have her on its team.”
Says Kelley, “As a litigator, I had the opportunity to tackle challenges in a variety of industries. Now I look forward to learning about and supporting the information technology industry, so that IT can continue to support the prosperity, security, and quality of life of all people.”
Kelley is a native of New Orleans, an avid runner, and a member of the Board of Directors of the DC Central Kitchen. She earned her JD from Harvard Law School and BSS from The Pennsylvania State University.
