Thank you for your interest in BSA Membership. BSA member companies are helping to chart a course for the future on issues of critical importance to the technology industry, including copyright and intellectual property protection, cyber security, privacy, trade, and commercial software development.

WHO ARE WE
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) is a nonprofit trade association created to advance the goals of the software industry and its hardware partners. It is the foremost organization dedicated to promoting a safe and legal digital world. BSA members are optimistic about the future of the software industry, but believe that the future does not simply unfold. It is critical for companies to work together to address the key issues that affect software innovation.

WHAT WE DO
BSA’s mission is to promote a long-term legislative and legal environment in which the business software industry can prosper. Programs foster innovation, growth, and a competitive marketplace for commercial software and related technologies. BSA provides a unified voice for its members before governments and in the international marketplace. BSA achieves its goals through global education on software management and copyright protection, cyber security, trade, commercial software, and e-commerce.

VALUE OF MEMBERSHIP
Unlike other associations, BSA does not measure its success by the number of members, but rather by the results it delivers to them. Activities highlight the value of software to the global economy, promote market growth, advance information security, increase compliance with software licensing requirements, and maximize software revenues. BSA members have consciously chosen to remain a small organization. We carefully review each potential member to make certain that we can provide a return on their investment. Because of our unique size, BSA members benefit from unparalleled service and personal attention. We are committed to ensuring that each voice is heard, and we value the input of our member companies.

GLOBAL REACH
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., BSA is active in more than 60 countries, with offices in London, Munich, Singapore, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
BSA members enjoy a variety of benefits that include the opportunity to participate in consumer education campaigns, policy advocacy efforts, global anti-piracy enforcement, and public affairs and marketing outreach. Setting the standard among industry organizations for effectiveness, responsiveness, and quality of work, BSA provides members with global industry advantages and measurable results.

Education
BSA’s education programs are designed to increase the public awareness of copyright laws, advocate the benefits of legal software use and responsible software management, and stress the importance of maintaining a competitive marketplace for commercial software. BSA promotes strong cyber security practices and provides checklists, surveys, and other tools to help organizations monitor and maintain their internal systems. Members benefit from BSA’s established reputation and extensive outreach efforts to businesses, governments, educational institutions, and consumers.

Advocacy
Sweeping policy initiatives around the world are reshaping the technology industry and the way it interacts with business and society. Technological developments and new threats are spawning legislative and regulartory proposals that will determine the future of interactions in cyberspace. Providing a unified voice for its members, BSA champions new business opportunities in the areas of intellectual property, trade, commercial software, and e-commerce, and plays a key role in advising government officials around the world on security issues. BSA’s Policy Council members work by consensus to ensure that policy initiatives around the world foster economic and industry growth.

Enforcement
BSA advocates strong intellectual property protection for business software and maintains public policy, education, and enforcement programs in more than 60 countries around the globe. Worldwide, more than 50 BSA hotlines provide callers with the opportunity to obtain information about software piracy and report suspected incidents of software theft. BSA also works closely with law enforcement agencies around the world to enforce software licensing agreements. Members benefit from BSA’s leverage and unparalleled experience on copyright issues.

Visibility and Access
BSA hosts a series of forums for industry CEOs, general counsels, communication experts, and others. These events provide senior executives from BSA member companies with an opportunity to share ideas, meet challenges, and advance industry initiatives with policymakers in the United States and abroad. Events attract global leaders and experts to discuss key issues affecting the industry and to assist BSA members with determining a course of action.
