WASHINGTON, DC — June 27, 2013 —
BSA | The Software Alliance today applauded the US Senate for passing comprehensive immigration-reform legislation that promotes innovation-driven economic growth by expanding the pool of high-skilled, foreign-born workers eligible to fill vacancies in US technology companies.
“We commend the Senate ‘Gang of Eight’ and their colleagues on both sides of the aisle for passing a comprehensive package of immigration reforms that will create jobs and promote innovation in the US economy,” said Matt Reid, BSA Senior Vice President for External Relations. “The software industry faces a chronic skills gap, so there are thousands of unfilled jobs in research, product development and engineering. This bill will help solve that problem by expanding the pool of H1-B visas and green cards that are available in the near term and increasing investment in STEM education for the long term.”
“The Senate bill is a huge bipartisan achievement, and we welcome efforts now underway in the House,” Reid said. “We look forward to continuing to work with Members of Congress at each stage of the legislative process to ensure critically needed reforms become law.”
