BSA Welcomes New European Commission President; Urges Thoughtful Approach to Digital Economy in Europe

Brussels — 15 July 2014 —

BSA | The Software Alliance congratulated Jean-Claude Juncker on his election as President of the European Commission, and affirmed the software industry’s commitment to working with the new Commission to expand the data-driven economy in Europe and around the world.

“Digital technologies could have a transformational impact on every sector of the global economy,” said BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel. “While Commission President Juncker’s agenda wisely recognizes the importance of key policy areas such as privacy and intellectual property to achieve a functioning connected digital single market, a thoughtful and judicious approach is crucial to get the balance right.”

“The new European Commission should aim to play a pivotal role in nurturing the potential of data-enabled technologies across Europe,” Espinel said. “We look forward to working alongside the Commission on policy solutions that will boost jobs and economic growth across every European Member State.”
