BSA Honors Reps. Rogers, Ruppersberger with Cyber Champion Awards

WASHINGTON, DC — November 28, 2012

BSA | The Software Alliance today presented Cyber Champion Awards to Reps. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) and Dutch Ruppersberger (D-Md.), the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, for their leadership and commitment to fostering the continued growth of a safe and secure digital world.

Reps. Rogers and Ruppersberger in 2012 worked together on a bipartisan basis to pass the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) in the House of Representatives, legislation which would breakdown some of the legal barriers currently preventing companies from sharing critical cyber threat information so front-line IT personnel are better able to thwart attacks.

“With the Cyber Champion Award, we recognize the outstanding contributions Representatives Rogers and Ruppersberger have made to the safety of our networks,” said BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman. “The award is our way of saying ‘thank you’ on behalf of an industry that depends on their efforts to protect and grow the digital economy and create new jobs. We are grateful to them for their tireless advocacy. Their bipartisanship is an example for all policymakers.”

BSA established the Cyber Champion Award in 1998 to recognize policymakers for their leadership in promoting policies that strengthen the high-tech industry and create high-skill, high-wage jobs for millions of Americans. Past recipients of the award include former Commerce Secretary William Daley and former US Trade Representatives Charlene Barshefsky and Susan Schwab. Congressional recipients have included Reps. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), John Conyers (D-Mich.), Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.), Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), and Lamar Smith (R-Texas), and Sens. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.).
