Whether it's safer transportation, improved agriculture, or life-saving medical breakthroughs, new technologies are being used to gather, store, and analyze data to solve complex challenges around the world. BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel spent time with Steve Potisk from Bloomberg Market Minute to talk about our groundbreaking use of data.

Full Interview:

Steve Potisk: This is a Bloomberg Market Minute. Software has been changing our daily lives, and one of the biggest ways is by allowing us to collect and use data more efficiently.

Victoria Espinel: “The power this is going to give us as human beings in terms of scientific advancements, in terms of improvements in our daily life, in terms of agriculture, in terms of health. It’s really incredible.”Steve: Victoria Espinel, chief executive of the Business Software Alliance. In a new report it points to farmers using data from seeds satellites and sensors about what to grow and when to plant.Victoria: “You look at the entire history of humanity, 90% of the data that exists in the world today was created in the last two years.”Steve: Researchers have developed an algorithm that can predict cardiac arrest four hours in advance using real-time data and a patient’s medical history. And according to the BSA, if harnessing data made industries just 1% more efficient it would add nearly $15 trillion to global GDP by 2030. I’m Steve Potisk, Bloomberg Radio.
