India Internet Sector in Fog After Controversial VPN Rules Delayed
Nikkei Asia, July 6, 2022

The future of the India’s internet industry with the roll-out of an extension by the government on the compliance deadline of the new cybersecurity rules is uncertain. The critics accuse the government of ramming the directive through without enough discussion in the first place.
“The alliance supports the aim of augmenting India's cybersecurity and appreciates the effort to clarify the rules while providing additional time. By further aligning the directions with a risk-based approach, the government of India can take steps toward a robust cybersecurity ecosystem,” Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy, the India country manager of BSA | The Software Alliance, said in a statement.
