“I’m a French citizen, and the idea of ‘data in the public interest,’ is a very French idea,” says Thomas Boue, who runs Emea policy for the BSA, a large software lobbying body that represents firms like IBM, Microsoft and Apple. “But it will be difficult for the French to create a data pool big enough to transform, say, the transport sector, and still be in compliance with GDPR.”
