Lawmakers Weigh Limits on Facial-Recognition Technology

The challenge for lawmakers will be figuring out appropriate constraints that won’t sideline the technology’s development, said Christian Troncoso, policy director at software industry association BSA, whose members include Microsoft, Apple Inc. and International Business Machines Corp. “Facial-recognition technology is the next frontier in the privacy conversation, and what we’re seeing is an effort by states to get their arms around the issue,” he said.
