BSA Statement on Europe’s AI and Data Strategies

BRUSSELS – February 19, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance offered the following statement on today’s publication of the European Commission’s data strategy and white paper on Artificial Intelligence (AI):

“BSA supports the EU’s ambition to enhance its digital leadership. Today’s strategies help set a clear path forward for companies, governments, and citizens to benefit from responsible, software-powered technologies across Europe,” said Thomas Boué, Director General, Policy – EMEA at BSA | The Software Alliance. “We particularly welcome the Commission’s approach to engage with sectors that haven’t traditionally thought of themselves as data stewards. The upcoming broad consultations will be key to building trust and ensuring that new rules on data-driven technologies are transparent, fair, and fit for purpose.”

“BSA members already partner with governments and businesses in the EU and beyond to enable job creation, advance innovation, and provide support through the digital transformation in a responsible manner,” Boué added. “We look forward to ongoing engagement with policymakers and other stakeholders, bringing our strong expertise and experience to help create a high-quality, values-based, trusted European data ecosystem.”
