BSA Welcomes Debate on Surveillance Reform

WASHINGTON, DC — May 7, 2014

BSA | The Software Alliance today voiced support for surveillance reform legislation to strike a better balance between national security needs and privacy protections for the public.

“Surveillance reform legislation needs to prevent indiscriminate data collection, provide strict oversight and safeguards, and ensure there is adequate transparency regarding government requests,” said BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel. “We appreciate efforts to address these issues in the Judiciary and Intelligence Committees and look forward to working with the full House as the legislative process advances. At the end of the day, it is critical to strike a better balance between the government’s need to protect public safety and people’s right to feel safe from unwarranted intrusions into their private lives.”
