AI Regulation Should Start with Privacy Rules, BSA Urges

BSA | The Software Alliance CEO Victoria Espinel urges Congress to develop a federal privacy law and regulate high-risk AI systems.
The US needs a new federal privacy law and rules for companies developing and using high-risk AI systems to promote responsible use of the technology and safeguard Americans’ data, Victoria Espinel, CEO of the software industry trade group BSA, said.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee on Wednesday kicked off a series of AI-focused hearings to examine the technology’s role in several areas covered by the panel—including data and privacy, energy, healthcare, and telecommunications.
