GDA’s New Data Restrictiveness Index Analyzes Economic Risks of Data Localization

A new Global Data Alliance report ranks almost 90 countries on their degree of data restrictiveness, highlighting the economic risks of restricting data transfers too tightly and showing how economies around the world depend on cross border data transfers.
“When there are restrictions on the ability to transfer data the impact is felt in the pharmaceutical industry, the auto industry, telecom sector, and it's about what kind of services they can provide to their consumers, jobs that go along with it and health and safety risks that come from not being able to bring data together in a way that can help identify problems,” said Aaron Cooper, VP of global policy at tech trade group BSA | The Software Alliance. (The Global Data Alliance is a BSA-led initiative.)
