BSA Welcomes Passage of FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act
WASHINGTON – January 18, 2018 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the passage of the FISA Amendments Reauthorization Act, legislation that reauthorizes Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and improves both individual privacy protections and government oversight and accountability mechanisms associated with the authority. BSA has long advocated that Section 702 legislation strike a careful balance between pressing national security requirements and individual privacy protections. The legislation passed today continues momentum in achieving that balance. BSA particularly welcomes the inclusion of safeguards and transparency mechanisms that will benefit not just US citizens, but individuals around the world.
