Closer and Stronger: BSA Welcomes the European Parliament’s Vote on the AI Act
BRUSSELS, March 13, 2024 – Matteo Quattrocchi, Director of Policy – EMEA, for BSA | The Software Alliance, issued the following statement in response to the European Parliament's vote on the AI Act:
“BSA | The Software Alliance commends the European Parliament for its approval of the AI Act, a key step toward the adoption of the Act.
The adoption of the AI Act and the recent establishment of the European AI Office underscore the commitment to fostering trust in artificial intelligence across the EU. Today’s vote represents an important milestone within global efforts to establish comprehensive frameworks for AI governance.
As the Act moves closer to becoming law, it is essential to recognize the importance of continued engagement and collaboration between policymakers and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.
BSA remains committed to working alongside the Commission, European Parliament, and Member States, through the implementation of the Act and the drafting of key secondary legislative acts and guidelines.”
BSA and its members have long been engaged with EU institutions related to the development and adoption of the AI Act. Key takeaways from Quattrocchi regarding the Act can be found in this blog post and a video shared last month.
BSA additionally outlined its priorities for the conclusion of the Act in a position paper published last year.
