La protección de la propiedad intelectual (PI) fomenta la investigación y el desarrollo que impulsa la innovación. El software representa el 19,6 por ciento de toda la I + D empresarial nacional en los Estados Unidos. Los marcos adecuados de protección de la propiedad intelectual son fundamentales para mantener esta inversión. BSA apoya:

la protección de patentes para todas las invenciones sobre una base de tecnología neutral,
las leyes de derechos de autor que protegen los derechos de los autores, intermediarios y usuarios de obras en la era digital,
protecciones para secretos comerciales, y
la reforma significativa en cuanto los litigios de patentes por lo cual se reduce la cantidad de litigios oportunistas y permite que quienes inventan e innovan puedan prosperar.
