BSA Asks Congress for AI Digital Replication Rules
Politico Pro Morning Tech
By Mallory Culhane
The tech industry group BSA | The Software Alliance is urging Congress to craft legislation to combat unauthorized digital replicas of artists’ name, image and likeness for commercial purposes.
BSA — which represents companies including Microsoft, Adobe and Workday — is putting out eight new policy recommendations on Wednesday morning aimed at nudging Capitol Hill toward rules on unauthorized digital replicas. The software lobbyists called for laws that would hold people legally liable when they create and disseminate an unauthorized digital replica for commercial purposes; protect third parties that don’t know when a digital replica is unauthorized; and allow the use of a protected work for purposes outlined in the fair use doctrine of copyright law, including criticism, reporting or research.
