BSA Calls on the EU to Include Global Software Expertise in Proposed EU Cybersecurity Competence Centre
BRUSSELS — February 19, 2019 — Following today’s vote at the Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) of the European Parliament on the establishment of a European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre, BSA | The Software Alliance released the following statement.
“The outcome of the ITRE vote raises questions on the future effectiveness of the proposed EU Cybersecurity Competence Centre. The Centre’s success should hinge on the participation of entities with the best expertise, regardless of their size or origin. All Member States, European and non-European stakeholders should work together to pursue security innovation,” said Thomas Boué, BSA Director General, Policy – EMEA. “The cybersecurity talent pool is global, and some of the best security research and products have been produced as the result of collaboration across borders and nationalities. Cybersecurity is a global issue; it cannot be achieved solely at local level.”
