BSA Applauds Collaboration Between US Department of Commerce and European Commission on Enhanced Privacy Shield Agreement
WASHINGTON – August 10, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes today’s joint statement from US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders. Their announcement that the US Department of Commerce and the European Commission will begin to work towards an enhanced US-EU Privacy Shield framework is a promising start towards developing a new, sustainable data transfer mechanism between the United States and European Union.
“BSA is encouraged by today’s statement and commends the US Department of Commerce and the European Commission for their collaboration on this important issue. As BSA highlighted in our recent multi-industry letter to the Department of Commerce, cross-border data transfers power the global economy and support businesses of all sizes in every sector,” said Kate Goodloe, Director, Policy at BSA | The Software Alliance. “BSA stands ready to work with Secretary Ross, Commissioner Reynders, and the business community to ensure that an enhanced Privacy Shield framework establishes strong privacy protections, provides clear guidelines for businesses, and fosters trust on both sides of the Atlantic.”
