Tech Company Amicus Brief Makes A Strong Case For Immigration

Forbes, August 11, 2020

America’s leading technology companies have filed an amicus brief in the legal complaint against the Trump administration’s proclamation blocking foreign nationals from entering the United States to work. The amicus brief makes a powerful case for the value of immigration.

The 52 companies and organizations that signed the amicus brief comprise many of the most successful companies in the United States, including Amazon.com, Apple, Dropbox, Facebook, Intel, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Netflix, PayPal, Salesforce.com, Twitter, Adobe, Box, SAP, HP and Uber. Organizations include FWD.us Education Fund, BSA | The Software Alliance, Information Technology Industry Council, SHRM, and the Semiconductor Industry Association.

“For decades, US businesses have welcomed thousands of highly-skilled and motivated workers from abroad to work temporarily in the United States through nonimmigrant visa programs established by Congress,” the companies and organizations write in their brief. “These initiatives, including the H-1B, H-2B, and L-1 visa programs, help drive American growth and innovation by attracting the world’s best talent – including engineers, doctors, bankers, biomedical researchers, software developers, and tech executives – at a time when the global contest to attract skilled workers is increasingly competitive.”
