Tech Firms May Take Data Bill to Court if House Adopts It Verbatim

An alliance of software companies, which counts enterprise software firms such as Microsoft as its members, is of the view that demand for data localization is a very strong area of concern for the association.
There is also growing concern over what privacy experts’ term as a lack of public consultation on several new provisions that have been introduced in the final report submitted by the joint committee of parliament. Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy, Country Manager India, BSA said "including non-personal data in privacy legislation makes it very challenging because there are aspects to non-personal data which are still under contemplation and study.”
“The way ( in which) sensitive and critical personal data categories have been defined are too broad or open,'' he said.
