The U.S. and Europe can bridge the privacy divide, Victoria Espinel tells The Wall Street Journal

It might be too unrealistic to expect the U.S. to reach an agreement on data flows with all trading partners, at least right away, but a common understanding with Europe should be achievable, according to Ms. Espinel. “The U.S. and Europe have, I believe, more commonality on issues such as privacy than commonly described,” she said. “I think the Europeans care a lot about privacy. And we care a lot about privacy. But our systems are different.”
