BSA Statement on the Online Privacy Act
WASHINGTON – November 5, 2019 – BSA | The Software Alliance offered the following statement on today’s introduction of the Online Privacy Act by Reps. Anna Eshoo and Zoe Lofgren.
“BSA is committed to working with Congress to create strong, comprehensive federal privacy legislation,” said Craig Albright, Vice President of Legislative Strategy at BSA | The Software Alliance. “We appreciate Reps. Eshoo and Lofgren’s input and stand ready to work with them, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and others in Congress to create a high-quality federal privacy standard. The bill includes elements BSA has recommended, including acknowledging the distinct role of service providers. We don’t agree with everything in this bill, but it’s an important step in the process. Consumers deserve the right to know and control what happens to their personal information. Clear, consistent, and comprehensive federal legislation is the best way to achieve this goal.”
BSA looks forward to continuing our work with Congress to create a single, clear set of federal standards that protect consumers. Read more about BSA’s commitment to data privacy here.
