BSA: US Officials Should Set Strong, Workable AI Rules
Congress Should Build Upon Biden Administration’s AI Announcement
WASHINGTON – BSA | The Software Alliance issued the following statement following the Biden administration’s announcement of new actions to promote responsible AI.
“The enterprise software industry welcomes the Biden administration’s steps to help promote the responsible development of artificial intelligence technologies. BSA looks forward to engaging with the administration as it develops guidance mitigating the risks of AI technologies when put into use by government entities,” said BSA Vice President of US Government Relations Craig Albright.
Albright continued: “Washington does not need to wait to set clear rules for known AI risks. US policymakers can – and should – build upon today’s announcements by setting rules across the economy to address concerns about bias when AI systems are used in consequential decision-making. BSA has put forward legislative proposals that would establish strong and workable rules for AI systems in place today, and lay the groundwork for further action on generative AI issues.”
NOTE: BSA will be hosting AI leaders including the general counsel for OpenAI at a public event on Tuesday, May 9. Details can be found here.
Additional Background: BSA has been calling for action by Congress on AI, and has put forth proposals to help the administration and lawmakers take substantive action to set strong and workable rules on artificial intelligence. For more details on BSA’s AI policies, click here.
