BSA Runs Campaign Opposing CA AB 1018
Pluribus News
By Austin Jenkins
The Business Software Alliance, which typically takes a more nuanced approach, is running ads on LinkedIn opposing Assembly Privacy Committee Chair Rebecca Bauer-Kahan’s (D) bill to address algorithmic discrimination in areas such as employment and housing. Last year it opposed a different version of the bill, but it commended Bauer-Kahan for her work and said it was willing to help with amendments. “What’s different this time is this bill is such an outlier,” said Craig Albright, the group’s senior vice president of U.S. government relations. In an interview and a lengthy blog post, Albright took issue with the bill’s definitions, how it treats deployers and developers of AI systems, and its third-party audits requirement.
