BSA: Time for Action in Congress on Privacy
WASHINGTON – Craig Albright, Vice President of US Government Relations for BSA | The Software Alliance, issued the following statement after President Biden’s 2023 State of the Union Address.
BSA | The Software Alliance and the enterprise software industry have been a leading advocate for a strong, comprehensive federal data privacy law. Consumers deserve transparency, clarity, and confidence in how their data is used and protected. BSA is working with the administration and Members of Congress in both parties to enact a clear and modern national privacy law that creates strong obligations for companies that handle consumers' personal data.
As part of its 2023 US Policy Agenda, BSA has outlined 10 areas of focus where policymakers can take substantial action to advance digital transformation. BSA is engaging directly with the administration and Members of Congress to improve our cybersecurity posture, pass a federal data privacy law, foster digital trade, and shape the policy landscape that spreads the benefits of artificial intelligence and builds trust in its applications.
For background: BSA’s 2023 Policy Agenda calls for passage of a national data privacy law, the importance of which was underscored in a letter to House and Senate leaders earlier this year asking lawmakers to take up a National Agenda for Digital Transformation.
