After Two Years of Preparation, the First Ever EU-wide Cybersecurity Legislation Enters Into Force

Brussels, 9 May 2018 – Today marks the entry into force of the Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems (“NIS Directive”), the first ever pan-European cybersecurity legislation which aims to achieve a harmonized high common level of network and information systems security across all Member States of the EU.

“Cybersecurity is a critical issue for BSA and our members have been working tirelessly over the past two years to prepare for the NIS Directive and will continue to provide products and services which protect their customers from the evolving cyber threat landscape” says Thomas Boué, Director General, Policy – EMEA.

“We and our members are committed to working with the EU institutions as well as Member States across the EU as they continue implementing their national cybersecurity strategies and identify those digital service providers covered by the Directive” concluded Boué.
