BSA Leads Industry Groups’ Call for New Trans-Atlantic Data Transfer Framework
Mlex, July 17, 2020
More than two dozen business associations are calling on the US Department of Commerce to replace the now-defunct Privacy Shield with a new legal mechanism for trans-Atlantic commercial data flows. The effects of yesterday's ruling from the European Court of Justice invalidating the Privacy Shield "reach far beyond the more than 5,300 Privacy Shield certified companies," the associations say in a letter led by BSA | The Software Alliance. "Indeed, Privacy Shield certified companies have suppliers of goods and services, comprising a network of tens of thousands of additional companies, all of which indirectly rely upon Privacy Shield," they say in the letter to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
