Industry Groups Urge Congressional Leadership to Pass IDEA Act
WASHINGTON – November 13, 2018 – BSA | The Software Alliance and other industry groups sent a letter of support for the 21st Century IDEA Act to Senate and House leadership, urging them to pass the legislation before the end of the year. The bill would modernize federal government websites to make them mobile-friendly, transition away from paper-based forms, and generally create a modernized digital experience for the government’s online services. The letter argues using up-to-date IT improves the user experience, extends access for people with disabilities, enhances security, and reduces costs. The legislation, originally introduced by Sens. Rob Portman and Claire McCaskill and Reps. Ro Khanna and John Ratcliffe, has passed the committees of jurisdiction in both chambers.
Signees of the letter include BSA | The Software Alliance, the Computer Technology Industry Association, the Electronic Signatures and Records Association, the Information Technology Alliance for Public Sector, the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, and the Software & Information Industry Association. We look forward to working with Congress to pass this common-sense bill and improve the delivery of federal digital services.
