House Hearing on SCOTUS Patent Cases Shows Greater Need for Reform, Says BSA
WASHINGTON, DC — February 12, 2015 —
A House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing today examining recent Supreme Court rulings on patent cases will underscore the urgent need to pass patent reform legislation, said BSA | The Software Alliance.
“We need to have discussions like today’s hearing to make it clear that there is still a critical need for patent reform. The fact of the matter is that abusers are still trying to game the system by driving up litigation costs, creating a heavy burden for companies across the economy,” said BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel. “The recent Supreme Court decisions have not changed the fact that bad actors still face few downsides in bringing frivolous patent claims. Congress must step in and provide the clarity that the system needs. We thank Chairmen Goodlatte and Issa for holding this hearing today and look forward to working with them to pass the Innovation Act.”
The hearing examining recent Supreme Court cases in the patent arena is scheduled to begin at 1 pm. For more information, visit www.judiciary.house.gov.
