Virtual Event: The EU Artificial Intelligence Act – Racing to the Finish Line
Speaker: Matteo Quattrocchi, Director, Policy, BSA | The Software Alliance
In April 2021, the European Commission presented its long-awaited proposal to regulate the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Almost two years on, EU co-legislators have yet to reach an agreement. The Council has already adopted its position, while the European Parliament is yet to agree on its final stance.
The AI Act offers a regulatory model for limiting the potentially risky application of AI and providing democratic oversight on the rollout of advanced technologies. Nevertheless, there are still disagreements between European lawmakers about protecting fundamental rights and the necessary obligations for providers and users of high-risk AI systems.
Is this highly anticipated EU Regulation going to live up to the mounting expectations? A distinguished panel of politicians and experts, hosted by The Wilfred Martens Centre for European Studies, walks through the latest developments and offers insights on the final direction in which the AI Act is heading.
Speakers Include:
- Dimitar Likov, Senior Research Officer, The Martens Centre;
- Mikael Ljungblom, Head of Public Affairs and Press, AI Sweden and Senior Advisor, Future of Democracy;
- Matteo Quattrocchi, Director, Policy, BSA | The Software Alliance; and
- Alex Voss, Member of the European Parliament
