Australia: BSA Response to AGD Copyright and AI Consultation

BSA’s response to the Australian Attorney-General’s Department’s Copyright and AI Consultation Paper which emphasizes our concerns that current copyright law may hinder AI development absent an explicit text-and-data mining exception, and our opposition to mandatory licensing schemes due to their impracticality and potential to stifle innovation. In this submission, BSA advocates for voluntary licensing alongside other lawful mechanisms to collect and use publicly available information for AI training, and we recommend that copyright protection should extend to works created by humans using AI as a tool to support creativity and innovation within Australia’s evolving AI landscape.
