BSA: FedRAMP Updates an Encouraging Sign
WASHINGTON – Business Software Alliance (BSA) Senior Director, IT Modernization and Procurement Jessica Salmoiraghi issued the following statement on Monday regarding updates announced to the FedRAMP program:
“The significant updates to FedRAMP proposed by the Program Management Office (PMO) are an encouraging sign that government officials acknowledge the barriers identified by industry to realizing the program’s initial goals. The Business Software Alliance (BSA) welcomes the opportunity to engage with the PMO to accelerate government IT modernization and facilitate adoption of cloud and AI technologies.
FedRAMP has historically struggled to achieve its original objective of providing streamlined certification for cloud services procured by the government. The proposed changes could leverage existing commercial security certifications and significantly reduce unnecessary paperwork. This would make it quicker and less costly for businesses to assist in modernizing federal technology, potentially enabling better government access to best-in-class commercial software and improving public services.
BSA looks forward to continued collaboration with members of Congress and the FedRAMP PMO, including participating in the newly announced working groups, to further remove barriers to the federal government’s technology adoption.”
