BSA | The Software Alliance Calls for a Focus on Tech Policy in 2017
WASHINGTON – November 9, 2016 – BSA | The Software Alliance calls upon President-Elect Donald Trump and members of the 115th Congress to advance the software industry’s key policy initiatives.
The next Administration and Congress have an excellent opportunity to come together on policies that will shape the software industry’s future for years to come.
These priorities include ensuring the free movement of data across international borders; reducing barriers to digital trade; enhancing data privacy and security; promoting intellectual property protections that support research and development; and advancing STEM education programs to help fill jobs across the industry.
These policies will foster the growth of emerging technologies powered by software, from cloud computing services and artificial intelligence to the application economy, blockchain technologies, 3-D printing, and data analytics. A number of these issues feature prominently in the Republican Platform and have already gained bipartisan support in Congress.
The success of the tech industry is critical to the US economy. A recent report from BSA shows the software industry contributes more than $1 trillion to the US GDP, nearly 10 million jobs, and $52 billion in R&D, with significant impact in each of the 50 states.
