BSA Praises the Senate's Passage of Trade Promotion Authority Legislation
WASHINGTON — May 22, 2015 —
BSA | The Software Alliance commended the Senate’s 62-37 vote in passing Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation, a critical step in strengthening the future of international digital trade.
“The Senate passing TPA represents a huge win. By doing so, the Senate has reinforced America’s leadership on international trade, and the software industry’s ability to operate globally. TPA is indispensable when it comes to ensuring we can continue to compete and grow, and help ensure the U.S. can stand up for American companies in the face of global threats to close markets,” said BSA President and CEO Victoria Espinel.
“This bipartisan legislation makes it clear that new trade agreements must include effective and enforceable provisions on the free flow of data and sound protection for all forms of intellectual property,” Espinel added. “This is necessary to truly be considered a 21st century trade agreement. I applaud Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch and Ranking Member Ron Wyden, and other leaders in the Senate who have championed this legislation. We look forward to the House taking up this legislation so we can see TPA signed into law.”
