Major Industry Groups Seek Extension for Comments on ICT Supply-Chain Security Proposal
Inside Cybersecurity, December 6, 2019
By Charlie Mitchell
A broad coalition of industry groups — including telecom, tech groups and others — is urging Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to extend a 30-day comment period on the information and communications technology supply-chain security proposal released just before Thanksgiving, citing the complexity and far-reaching implications of the rule.
The groups say in the letter, “Given the importance of this objective, the complex dimensions of the proposed policy changes contained in the notice, and the technological complexities at issue, we request the Department extend the notice’s comment period to 90 days to ensure our associations and our members are able to provide the Department with a response that is both meaningful and comprehensive.”
Among the groups signing are the Association of Global Automakers; BSA | The Software Alliance; Business Roundtable; Coalition of Services Industries; Computer & Communications Industry Association; CompTIA; CTIA; Information Technology Industry Council; Internet Association; US-China Business Council; U.S. Chamber of Commerce; and USTelecom-The Broadband Association.
