BSA Voices Support for Congressional Letter on Privacy Shield
WASHINGTON – October 2, 2020 – BSA | The Software Alliance commends Representatives Peter Welch, Darin LaHood, Suzan DelBene, Guy Reschenthaler, Bobby Rush, Jerry McNerney, Bill Johnson, Don Beyer, Larry Bucshon, Anna Eshoo, John Curtis, Will Hurd, Jimmy Panetta, Dan Kildee, Drew Ferguson, Jackie Walorski, Ron Kind, Steven Horsford, Adrian Smith, and Ron Estes for their letter to the US Department of Commerce and the Federal Trade Commission expressing support for ongoing work to develop a successor to the EU-US Privacy Shield.
“Companies of all sizes and in every industry rely on the ability to send data across international borders. We need more stable and trusted mechanisms for companies to transfer data between the European Union and the United States. We commend the authors of today’s letter for recognizing the importance of this issue,” said Kate Goodloe, Director, Policy, at BSA. “BSA strongly supports the ongoing work by the United States and European Union to develop a successor to the Privacy Shield. The recent invalidation of Privacy Shield poses a significant challenge not only for the 5,300 companies certified to that program, but also the tens of thousands of companies that indirectly rely on data transferred under it. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic on this important issue.”
