Michael O’Brien

Vice President, Global Public Affairs

Michael O’Brien is Vice President of Global Public Affairs at the Business Software Alliance, where he leads global communications and public affairs strategy for the enterprise software industry.

O’Brien leads BSA’s public affairs portfolio on key industry issues, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital sovereignty. He directs media relations and strategic communications in markets worldwide, and leads BSA thought leadership initiatives that elevate CEOs and industry executives in commercial and policy debates, supported by BSA’s editorial platforms and digital channels.

Before joining BSA, O’Brien was Vice President of Public Affairs and Advocacy at the National Association of Manufacturers, where he led national campaigns and transformed the organization’s member mobilization and grassroots programs.

Previously, he served as Director of Public Affairs at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, where he led policy media relations and built an award-winning grassroots program. He began his career as a national political reporter for The Hill and NBC News.

O’Brien holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and an MBA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Public Affairs Council. He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife and daughters.
