Tech industry advocate group BSA | The Software Alliance is opposing third-party audits of artificial intelligence models, saying the results are meaningless without universal standards to evaluate AI systems against. Instead, BSA said companies developing and using AI should conduct impact assessments.
“In order to audit something, you need to have a standard,” said Aaron Cooper, BSA’s senior vice president of global policy. “Until there's a standard to audit against, an audit wouldn't have any meaning. Whereas an impact assessment is something that a company can do today to make sure that they're taking steps to mitigate the risk of harm,” he told Morning Tech.
