Die Bedeutung von Software für die deutsche Wirtschaft ist mit einem Anteil von 152,6 Milliarden Euro am deutschen Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) enorm. In dieser Zahl berücksichtigt sind indirekte und abgeleitete Auswirkungen. Dadurch entstehen knapp zwei Millionen hochqualifizierte und gut bezahlte Arbeitsplätze sowie Investitionen in die Forschung und Entwicklung in Höhe von annähernd drei Milliarden Euro.
