BSA Reaffirms Commitment to DACA
WASHINGTON – November 12, 2019 – Today, the Supreme Court will hear arguments challenging the revocation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program by the administration. Last month, BSA | The Software Alliance joined more than 140 associations and companies in a brief to the Supreme Court reinstating our support for DACA and its beneficiaries – the DREAMers. Although the cases before the Supreme Court are extremely important, only Congressional action will fully address the problem caused by the DACA termination.
The DREAMers are individuals who make our communities better and our economy stronger, and they deserve certainty regarding their ability to remain in the United States. DREAMers are our friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Their contributions make all sectors of the US economy, including the software industry which supports more than 14 million jobs in the country, stronger and more productive. Protecting the DREAMers’ future is important to ensuring the United States remains a leader in global competitiveness and, as a result, to creating new jobs for all Americans.
BSA urges Congressional action supporting responsible immigration policy, including legislation to reinstate DACA protections and to make them permanent. This approach will prevent any ambiguity about DREAMers’ status in the United States.
