Global Data Alliance Applauds Strong Focus on Data Flows in New EU Trade Strategy
BRUSSELS – February 18, 2021 – The Global Data Alliance applauds Europe’s new trade strategy, released today, which captures the critical role of data flows and digital technologies to businesses’ ability to operate, innovate, and compete.
“Trade policy is integral to yielding the benefits of digital transformation for businesses big and small, in every sector, in Europe and across the world. The EU’s new trade strategy underscores both the benefits of cross-border data for businesses and the need to ensure appropriate privacy and security protections are in place globally,” said Isabelle Roccia, Senior Manager, Policy – EMEA at BSA | The Software Alliance.
“Given the essential role of data flows to our increasingly digital and global economy, an international framework is needed to facilitate the open and secure movement of information. The Global Data Alliance therefore especially welcomes the Commission’s commitment to concluding ambitious and comprehensive e-commerce negotiations at the WTO,” added Roccia.
