BSA: EU Preliminary Decision an Important Step Forward on Transatlantic Data Pact
BRUSSELS – December 13, 2022 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes the European Commission’s draft US adequacy determination, announced Tuesday in Brussels, calling it an important step forward for implementing a pending transatlantic data privacy framework.
“Today’s draft adequacy decision marks an important step forward in implementing the EU-US Data Privacy Framework,” said Victoria Espinel, President and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance. “BSA and the enterprise software industry is advocating for leaders in Brussels and Washington to develop a stable, trusted, privacy-protective transatlantic data transfer mechanism that provides legal certainty to businesses and meaningful privacy protections to individuals. Once implemented, the Framework will establish the right path forward to ensure continued digital transformation on both sides of the Atlantic.”
BSA participated as amicus curiae in the Schrems II case and recently spearheaded several cross-industry initiatives supported by dozens of associations explaining the significant economic impacts of data transfers on enterprises and workers, in addition to the ability to promote high data protection standards. BSA and our members look forward to continuing to work with European Commission and US policymakers to finalize and implement the Framework in 2023.
