EU: BSA Welcomes General Court Decision Upholding EU–US Data Privacy Framework
Following today’s ruling by the General Court of the European Union in Latombe v Commission, in which the Court dismissed the challenge against the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, the Business Software Alliance (BSA) has issued the following statement:
"BSA welcomes the decision by the EU General Court to leave the EU–US Data Privacy Framework in place. This outcome provides stability and reassurance for businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic who rely every day on trusted cross-border data flows.
The Framework is essential for the digital economy, helping companies of all sizes better serve customers and adopt technologies that drive growth and competitiveness. The safeguards built into the Framework assure a high level of privacy protection.
Close cooperation between the European Union and the United States can ensure that the Framework is fully implemented and serves as a durable, reliable foundation for both strong privacy protections and the free flow of information."
BSA has long supported the DPF, from welcoming the adequacy decision to the framework’s first review, and participated in the previous case before the European Court of Justice as an amicus curiae to underscore the importance of standard contractual clauses to protect privacy and commerce.
