BSA Applauds OECD Principles on Government Access to Data, Supports Ongoing Efforts to Build Trust in International Data Transfers
WASHINGTON – December 14, 2022 – BSA | The Software Alliance welcomes a new Declaration published today by the OECD recognizing a set of principles addressing government access to personal data held by the private sector.
“The OECD principles adopted today are shared by like-minded democracies, reflecting common values around safeguards limiting government access to personal data for national security and law enforcement purposes,” said Kate Goodloe, Senior Director, Policy at BSA | The Software Alliance. “Recognizing the commonality and shared values among OECD member countries is a significant achievement – particularly on this complex set of issues.”
“The OECD’s work on trusted government access to data will help create a more stable environment for the international data transfers that powers today’s digital transformation,” Goodloe added.
International data transfers are essential for global commerce. At a time when data localization is on the rise, the OECD’s principles are critical to supporting and building trust in cross-border data flows. BSA is advocating for sensible and responsible cross-border data policies worldwide.
