BSA Voices Support and Offers Feedback to CT AI Bill

BSA | The Software Alliance Senior Vice President of US Government Relations Craig Albright highlights some of his concerns with Connecticut’s AI bill, including the lack of clear distinctions for developers and deployers of AI systems.
Tech industry group BSA | The Software Alliance, which represents companies including Microsoft, IBM and Workday, voiced support for the bill when it was introduced earlier this month, but still wants to see some changes to the language. Craig Albright, senior vice president for U.S. government relations at BSA, said he’s concerned that some definitions in the bill are too broad and that there needs to be clearer distinctions on what’s required for companies and developers versus the parties that are actually deploying and using AI. BSA is sending a letter to the Legislature this week with feedback on the bill ahead of Thursday’s hearing.
“There's a big difference in saying a consequential decision is determining whether someone has access to or is eligible for a certain benefit,” Albright said. “For example, software that helps determine if someone has access to health care, could be a system that doctors use to schedule appointments with patients. That doesn't have anything to do with eligibility for health care.”
