Statement on House Passage of the Defend Trade Secrets Act from Victoria A. Espinel, President and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance
WASHINGTON — April 27, 2016 — "BSA | The Software Alliance applauds the House of Representatives for passing the Defend Trade Secrets Act with 410 votes, and sending it to the President’s desk for his signature. This is an important day for innovative companies throughout our economy. Trade secrets are an important form of intellectual property for the software industry – and, indeed, for all industry sectors. The Defend Trade Secrets Act will ensure that trade secret owners have a federal civil remedy when their know-how is stolen.
We thank the leaders of this legislation – Senators Hatch and Coons in the Senate, and Representatives Collins and Nadler in the House – as well as Judiciary Committee Chairmen Goodlatte and Grassley, and Ranking Members Conyers and Leahy for the consensus-oriented process they facilitated. We also applaud the Obama Administration’s leadership on trade secret protection, and we look forward to the President signing the Defend Trade Secrets Act into law."
