Les protections de la propriété intellectuelle (PI) encouragent la recherche et développement (R&D) qui stimule l’innovation. Les logiciels représentent 19,6 % de la R&D des entreprises nationales aux États-Unis. Des cadres de protection de la PI appropriés sont essentiels au maintien de cet investissement. BSA soutient :

la protection par brevet pour toutes les inventions sur la base du principe de la neutralité technologique ;
les lois sur le droit d’auteur protégeant aussi les intermédiaires et les utilisateurs d’œuvres à l’ère numérique ;
la protection des secrets commerciaux ; et
une réforme significative des litiges en matière de brevets qui réduit les litiges opportunistes et permet à ceux qui inventent et innovent de prospérer.
