Technology Policy Expert Aaron Cooper Joins BSA | The Software Alliance as Vice President, Strategic Policy Initiatives
WASHINGTON — January 29, 2016 — BSA | The Software Alliance today announced Aaron Cooper will join BSA on February 22nd as Vice President, Strategic Policy Initiatives. In this central role, Cooper will lead BSA’s policy priorities and strategy.
“Aaron is a respected voice in technology and legal circles. His talent, proven track record of leadership, and deep knowledge of the industry’s policy issues will drive to the next level BSA’s well-established leadership in advocating for clear policies and legal frameworks, that foster innovation and creative enterprise,” noted Victoria Espinel, president and CEO of BSA | The Software Alliance.
“The global software industry is the biggest driver in technology’s rapid evolution,” Espinel added. “The strategic savvy and comprehensive expertise Aaron adds to our team will ensure the contributions of the software industry to our economy and everyday life are fully realized in the US and around the world.”
Cooper will contribute to the advancement of BSA members’ key policy priorities, including privacy, trade, intellectual property, encryption, and data sharing across borders.
Prior to joining BSA, Cooper was Of Counsel at Covington & Burling, focused on intellectual property, privacy, communications and antitrust law. He has also served as Chief Counsel for Intellectual Property and Antitrust to Chairman Leahy on the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, and as Counsel for the Office of Senator Paul Sarbanes. He is a graduate of Princeton University and received his law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law.
